A Brilliant Deal That Won't Break the Bank : 1000 Magic the Gathering Cards - Playsets (No More Than Four of Any One Card)...
I was prompted by a recent stint of boredom (brought about by a combination of a lack of substantive funds and the fact that I live in a sleepy mountain town in which the main recreational activity is drinking) to return to Magic after a 13 year hiatus. Considering the aforementioned lack of funds, one can imagine my glee when I discovered this deal. 67 booster packs worth of cards for only 27.50? Rock on, Amazon. But on to what you're all really wondering: is it worth it?
The short answer: Yes.
The long answer: yeeeeeeeessss
To begin with, my order arrived after a mere 2 business days with free Super Saver Shipping. The cards arrived neatly packed, in a thousand pack box, every single one of them in near mint condition (despite the mailman rather rudely stuffing the package into a too small mailbox).
As for the cards, I'm sure you're wondering, "Tony, what kind of cards did you get?"
Well, I was promised 1000 cards, and I received 1137, including 100 lands (twenty of each), neatly packaged in their own little plastic...things. I received a roughly even collection of each color, as well as a nice pile of artifacts, with about a quarter of the cards being uncommon. Card Carrier Games (LLC, Inc, OBE, Ph.D, etc, etc.) was even kind enough to send two complimentary rares, back to back in a protective card case (Gravitational Shift and Myr Propagator, for those who care; the latter is kinda crap, but the former can add a nice shazaam to a blue or blue/white deck). Most of the cards were Magic 2010 or later, with only 7 cards being earlier than 10th edition.
Now, reading through the many other reviews on this item, I'm guessing the main question everybody is asking themselves is "did you get more than four duplicates of any cards?" Well, yes. I received a total of 66 cards that were duplicates in excess of four. You're probably saying to yourself "Tony, you gorgeous, bearded exemplar of the Irish genius, you gave these lying finks a 5 star rating when they did that to you? How could you?". Well, for one those 66 excess duplicates were of a grand total of about 12 cards, all of which were useful in multiple different decks (as I am the type of person who likes to have several decks pre-made to pick from. Two, the 137 extra cards included in the set more than made up for the 66 excessive duplicates. And finally, these cards were by far the exception to the rule. About 500-600 cards in the collection had not even a single duplicate, with most of the rest having 2 or 3. Only a very small number of cards had a full four duplicates.
So, is this worth buying? Hell yeah.
